Greetings Frelinghuysen Middle School Community,
I greatly appreciate your calm, patience, and efforts to ensure that all of our students had a positive and productive week of learning in spite of the security concern that emerged last Sunday. On a positive note, the situation challenged us to review and strengthen our security procedures as a school community, and we feel very confident that we are providing our students with an extremely safe and supportive school environment each day. As we turn to this coming week, there are many important and exciting updates and reminders I want to share with you, so I encourage you to take a few minutes to review them:
- Our FMS Back-School-Nights are this week. They will begin in the FMS Auditorium. We look forward to seeing you there.
- 6th Grade Back to School Night: Tuesday, September 20th (6:30-8:30)
- 7th Grade Back to School Night: Wednesday, September 21st (6:30-8:30)
- 8th Grade Back to School Night: Thursday, September 22nd (6:30-8:30)
- Bilingual Back to School Night: Monday, September 26th (6:00 pm) – Morristown High School
- Over the next few days you will be receiving a letter from the school with information about the PowerSchool Parent Portal. The PowerSchool Parent Portal is a way for you to get real-time information about your child’s attendance and grades in every class. Included in the letter is your personalized log-in information. We encourage you to activate your account immediately. This is a phenomenal tool to help you monitor your child’s academic progress and to partner with the school in supporting your his/her success.
- Later this week, you will be learning more about how to log-on to Canvas. Canvas is another valuable new tool the entire FMS community – including parents and students – will be using this year. All FMS teachers will be posting their assignments and tests/quizzes on the Canvas Calendar on a weekly basis. This will enable you and your child to see exactly what their homework and test/quiz schedule is each week for every one of their classes. We encourage you to activate your account once we send you those directions.
- If you have not done so already, please sign up for our new FMS Weekly Bulletin that we send out every Thursday afternoon. The FMS Weekly Bulletin, which replaces the previous Daily Bulletin, includes important information about upcoming events, Athletics, Clubs, school-wide and grade-level announcements and more. - As part of their Parent Education Series, the MEF is sponsoring an important presentation by nationally-known speaker, John O’Sullivan entitled Changing the Game: Helping Our Children Achieve Excellence in Sports and Life. For more information about this October 25th event, follow this link.
Finally, as I mentioned last week, this year we will have an artist-in-residence working with our students to create a school mural in our cafeteria. We very much want your input on what you would like to see as part of that mural.
