We have so much to be grateful for at FMS as we approach this Thanksgiving holiday.

We can be thankful for the school-parent-community partnerships that this week led to the ongoing development of our Community Mural as well as the important HSA meeting Wednesday night that focused on “Cyber-Safety for Your Tween” which was led by the Morris Police Department Chief McGuiness and Detective Shearer.

thanksgiving-donationsWe can be thankful for the FMS staff that not only works incredibly hard to bring rigorous, relevant, and innovative learning to your child every day, but is also committed to partnering with the community in developing our students to be positive and productive citizens. This is evident in their organization of a community food drive for families in our school community, and in their planning of this Wednesday’s House Day which will engage all of our students in compassionate acts in support of members of our local and national community.

race-carsWe can be thankful for all of the opportunities we are able to provide our students. Just this past week, I marveled at the growing number of students staying after school for the school musical, Model United Nations, Technology Student Association, Art Clubs, Music Ensembles, Basketball, Wrestling, Cheerleading, Homework Tutorial, and more.

In addition, this past week students in our Quest program visited the United Nations and our Select Choir students participated in the Oak Knoll Consortium. Moreover, eight of our FMS students have been selected for the North Jersey Area Band ensemble. It is truly exciting to see so many of our students building positive connections and experiences with the school beyond their regular class schedule!

One final note…I will be hosting a Principal’s Tea in the FMS Media Center on Tuesday, November 29 at 9:00 am, and again at 7:00 pm. The purpose of this Principal’s Tea is to receive feedback from our parent community about the school-wide homework program that we started this year. The Homework Program is a significant initiative this year that we implemented to focus our students’ work at home and our teachers’ work at school on developing the skills and concepts most essential for success in high school, college, and career. The second goal of the program is to create a consistent approach to and schedule for homework across grades, Houses, and classrooms. I hope you can attend so that I can hear your feedback on how you see the program working after one marking period.

Finally, congratulations to the FMS Students of the Month for October!
