What happens if I want to check Parent Portal, however I can’t remember my password?

  • Parent Portal is a great way of keeping in check with how your child is doing in each of his or her classes. You can look up their current grades in each class and check on upcoming assignments, quizzes, and tests. Just go to the school website and on the home page click Parent Resources, then select Parent Portal.  To log in, just enter your user name and password. If you have forgotten your username and password, all you need to do is call the main office and they will be happy to give it to you.  We encourage you all to take a look.

When and where are conferences and what do I do? Conference Time: 2:30 PM –  4:30 PM Break: 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM Conference Time: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM Conference Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM Break: 3:00 PM – 3:30 PM Conference Time: 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM

  • You will enter the school through the main doors anytime during the given days.  You do not have to go both days and you do not have to go at the start of the conferences.  You can go anytime during the allotted times and days.  Once in the building you will be directed by grade to either the cafeteria, old or new gym.  All three houses are in the location per grade.  You will find your teacher and wait in the chairs placed in front of the desk until it is your turn to meet with your child’s teacher.
FUNDRAISERS AND DONATIONS

What fundraisers does the HSA sponsor?

  • Our major fundraiser is the Just Write a Check donation campaign.  We also collect empty laser and inkjet printer cartridges as well as used cell phones in the main office throughout the year.
  • The Box Tops Program is another way that we raise money. Box Tops is “FREE MONEY” for our school. Each box top is worth 10 cents and they really add up!  **Most products now have the Blue Box top logo!  This means you scan your grocery store receipt to the Box Top App to earn more money for the school.  Grandparents, Friends, family and neighbors can download the APP too.

    Box Tops APP

You may still find in your pantry some items that have the little pink Box Top, cut it out, save them and send them in every few weeks with our teacher’s name on the bag. Be sure to check expiration dates.  If you go to the Box Tops for Education website you will be able to see a full list of products that have box tops. This is probably the easiest way to assist in raising money for the school…. everyone can do this!  Click here: Box Tops for Education

Also be sure to link your Shoprite card to get box tops credit just by using your rewards card. Use this link: https://www.shopriteformyschool.com/HowItWorks

  • School spirit clothing sales and the afternoon snack bar round out the HSA’s fundraisers.

How can I donate to the HSA?

  • You can make a donation to the Just Write a Check campaign throughout the school year.  Donations can be made online through PayPal or via check made payable to FMS HSA and mailed to FMS HSA, 2 Jane Way, Morristown, NJ 07960. All contributions are tax deductible.
LUNCH AND SNACKS

If my child wants to buy lunch or a snack at lunch, how do I go about doing that?

  • Lunch costs $3.10 per day not including snacks. This comes to $15.50 per week. The price for snacks is anywhere between $.50 and a $1.25 per item. FMS also offers a free and reduced lunch option, if you’re interested, please contact the office for more information on how to apply. Each day the school lunch menu offers hot and cold options, fresh fruit, vegetables and milk. Although the menu varies throughout the week, pizza and hamburgers are served daily. All children are able to purchase lunch or a snack, with cash, on any day of the week. If you would like to put money in an account for them, you can send a check to the main office, with any specified amount, written out to Frelinghuysen Middle School or the Morris School District. Please indicate your child’s ID number on the check. You can find your child’s ID number on their school ID card or schedule. Each child needs to have their school ID number on them in order to purchase lunch using an account. The kitchen staff will make your child aware when the amount in their account is running low, so you can replenish the account. If there is a situation where the account balance is zero, your child will still be supplied with a cold lunch and it will be deducted from future payment. For more information about school lunches, check out our Frelinghuysen Middle School website and click the “What’s on my Child’s Lunch Tray” icon in the bottom right corner. FYI – Please remember on half days dismissal is at 12:18.  On half days there is no lunch period. Please have your child bring a snack.

What is the After-School Snack Bar?

  • Snacks and drinks are offered for kids who are involved in after school activities. Drinks are $1 and snacks range from $0.25 to $0.50.  Contact Abby Mehlin (dearaem@aol.com) to volunteer once or twice a month from 2pm to 3pm.
AFTERSCHOOL ACTIVITIES

What After-School Activities does the HSA Sponsor?

  • The HSA sponsors after school clubs three times a year; each club runs 6 weeks.  A fee is collected to cover teacher stipends and club costs.  Information will be posted here on the FMS HSA website,  in the Daily Bulletin,  and in the HSA weekly E-blast.

If my child is participating in after school clubs or sports, is there a late bus?

  • Yes! If your child is participating in after school clubs or sports they are still able to take a bus home.  There are daily buses at 4:00pm. The scheduled routes are posted both in the main entrance of the school and also on the Frelinghuysen Middle School website – click here to view.  Teachers will be stationed at the buses to insure that the children get on their appropriate bus.  Due to the fact that home or away sports activities often run beyond 4:00pm, the school also provides buses at 5:30pm, which will wait at the school until the event concludes and the children have returned to FMS.

Is there a school dance?

  • There are grade level HSA-sponsored activities throughout the year.
    • 6th grade — fall after-school event and a spring evening dance.
    • 7th grade — fall and spring evening dances.
    • 8th grade — fall and spring evening dances.  The spring dance is held during their Washington, DC trip.  There is also a year book signing party.
  • See the Committee Chair list if you’d like to volunteer.

What sports are offered in the winter and how do I sign up?

  • Winter Sports are: Basketball (girls and boys); Cheerleading and Wrestling. The Drill team is also offered, but sports forms are not required.  Winter Sports forms are accepted from in the Nursing Office, and the forms and deadlines can be found on the FMS website under Athletics, Sports Forms.  Please return them as soon as possible so the MSD Doctor can review them and the blue cards can be issued. Blue cards will be distributed at school and must be signed by a parent and returned to the Coach before the first meeting, tryout, or first practice date. All information about when Winter Sports begin will be listed in the Daily Bulletin and announced during Home Room.

Halloween is coming and I’m wondering if children wear their costumes to school and if so, what are the rules?

  • Yes, many children wear costumes to school on Halloween.  Be aware that in general the rules are – no weapons, no masks, all costumes must be school appropriate with regards to the dress code in the student handbook and nothing that advertises drugs or alcohol.  I hope this helps with choosing your costumes, Boo!

I heard you can place a Happiness Ad in the Yearbook. What is it and how do I do it?

  • If you have an 8th Grader, you can place a “Happiness Ad” in the yearbook.  The ad is 1/8 of the page and costs $25.  You can use the ad to congratulate your son or daughter or express how proud you are of them.  Baby pictures or current photos are also a great way to make your ad stand out!  To create an ad, go to www.yearbookordercenter.com. Use School Number 4275 and click on Buy a Yearbook Ad.
BOOK FAIR

Is there a Book Fair at FMS?
