Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Cross Country teams for placing second in the County Championships! The Boys and Girls Soccer teams also both won the first round of the County playoffs. We wish them luck this week as the playoffs progress.

We hope everyone is planning on attending Friday’s FMS Fright Night at 7:00 pm. It should be a fun night for the whole family.

Reminder – Sports forms for winter sports are due October 26th! If this is your first time participating in teacher conferences, make sure you check out the question of the week below.

Last week we had a fencing demonstrations at FMS. Six students from the MHS Fencing Team along with Head Coach George LaTorre came on Friday during the lunch periods. Mr. Fabricant, the FMS House 1 Administrator, fenced Sabre versus the MHS team captain, Senior Nick Kapp.  Mr. Fabricant was an NCAA Division 1 Fencer at Notre Dame and won a championship for them. Team members representing the Foil and Epee squads were there as well, dressed in uniform, interacting with the students and showing them the differences in the blades and uniforms. Students also met MHS’s newest coach, Hans Weiselgren, a former Olympic fencer and first place individual NCAA champion fencer from New York University.

As we are all getting to know our new House 1 Administrator, here are some interesting facts to share with your children:

  • Mr. Fabricant won an NCAA championship in 2003, representing the University of Notre Dame. Additionally, he was ranked in the top 10 in each age group throughout his career as a fencer. He trained under current Olympic coach Yury Gelman in NYC.
  • Individual Accomplishments
    • 3rd-place finisher in the U17 division at nationals
    • 2nd-place finisher at the Penn State collegiate open
    • 6th-place finisher at 2003 NCAAs
    • Second team All American in college
    • Reached top 8 in multiple tournaments in U20 and U17 age group divisions

Mr. Fabricant is quite an accomplished athlete! It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to expose the children to one of the amazing sports the high school has to offer.  Plus, they got to meet an Olympian during lunch. We are grateful that the high school team came to entertain everyone, it made for a very exciting Friday!

Have a happy and safe Halloween,

Lucy Webber
