Greetings Frelinghuysen Community,

This past week I had the honor and the great fortune to attend the FMSWinter Band Concert.  It was so impressive and inspiring to see so many of our students engaged in such a positive, constructive, collaborative, and rigorous endeavor under the leadership of our band teachers, Mr. Gallagher and Mr. Ocasio.  It is clear that the FMS music teachers, including Ms. Tomblin and Mr. Gonsky, have created a thriving music program at our school.  We currently have 374 students participating in either the FMS Concert Band or Orchestra, and a remarkable 307 students participating in the FMS Chorus.  The broad benefits of participating in music – either by playing an instrument or singing – are well documented in educational research, and it is inspiring to have the opportunity to lead a school in which so many of our students are making music a part of their educational experience.  I hope that student participation numbers in our music programs continue to grow, and if your child is not yet participating, I encourage you to speak to them about joining for next year.  This Tuesday night at 7:00 pm is our Winter Chorus Concert.  I hope you come out to celebrate the great work Mr. Gonsky and his students have been doing to prepare for this performance.  Have a great week!

In partnership,

Mr. Uglialoro
